Making Waves: The Saudi Surf Story
Aurora partnered with the Saudi Surf Federation to create a documentary capturing the growth of surfing in Saudi Arabia — from its early beginnings to the opportunities now being created for the next generation of athletes.
The film was designed to represent the Federation’s vision, values and ambition, telling the story of a sport emerging in a new landscape and building momentum on a global stage.
Approach
Working closely with the Federation, Aurora developed a narrative that balanced institutional storytelling with authentic, athlete-led perspectives.
The film traces the journey of surfing in Saudi Arabia, combining interviews with the Federation’s leadership and emerging athletes with cinematic footage shot across the country’s coastal locations.
Our approach focused on:
- Capturing the transformation of the sport from grassroots beginnings to a structured national programme
- Highlighting the people driving its growth, from leadership to athletes
- Showcasing the landscape and environment shaping the sport’s identity
Filmed in a range of striking coastal locations, the production combined cinematic visuals with personal storytelling to create a film that feels both aspirational and grounded.
The finished documentary was hosted on MBC Shahid, reaching audiences across Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
