Overview
Taking electric racing to the Arctic to tell a global story about climate change.
Aurora partnered with Formula E to create Ice Drive, a feature-length brand film capturing an ambitious attempt to run a Formula E car on the Greenland ice cap.
Designed to create a powerful visual link between climate change and the role of electric vehicles, the project combined high-impact storytelling with a clear environmental message. The challenge was significant — identifying a stable location in a rapidly changing Arctic environment, and safely transporting and operating a race car in extreme conditions.
Approach
Working in one of the most remote and unpredictable landscapes on earth, Aurora filmed the full journey — from initial planning and reconnaissance through to execution on the ice. With rising temperatures making traditional iceberg locations unviable, the production moved further north to the ice cap to complete the stunt.
The film blends cinematic action with expert insight, featuring contributions from climate scientists, ecologists and glaciologists to contextualise the environmental stakes.
Premiering at the Marrakesh ePrix, Ice Drive positioned Formula E as a platform for change, using storytelling to connect sport, technology and sustainability for a global audience.
To be there in the Arctic and see it with my own eyes, and now put together in this unique documentary on the big screen was a special moment. It's incredible to see a car become an ambassador in the fight against global warming.
First of all to make it happen and all the people involved - it was a very strong message. Racing is a laboratory for society, climate change and for many road users across the globe - the documentary was a refreshing adventure
